BRYANT WOMEN'S TENNIS FALLS TO URI 5-2 IN OPENER

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's tennis team opened the 2010-11 dual season Wednesday with a 5-2 loss at the University of Rhode Island.  The Bulldogs opened the match strong by winning all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead.  But the Rams stormed back in singles play, winning five of the six matches to pick up their first victory on the season.  

Claudia Hildalgo and newcomer Lucy Bird earned an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles for the Bulldogs with Stephanie Smyers and Valeria Couto Cuervo following with a hard-fought 8-6 win at No.2 doubles.   Irma Rodriguez-Lockwood and Jessica Vickers closed out doubles play with an 8-1 win at No. 3.  Rodriguez-Lockwood was the lone victor for Bryant in singles play, defeating Michelle Dussol in straight sets at No. 6, 6-4, 6-4.
