BRYANT MEN'S TENNIS FALLS TO FAIRFIELD 5-2 THURSDAY

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's
tennis team got strong performances from Juan Paredes and Kevin
Gardiner in singles play while the doubles tandem of Cristian
Balestrieri and Andres Orobitg continue to roll but it would be
visiting Fairfield that would come out on top as the Stags rolled
to 5-2 victory over the Bulldogs at the Bryant Tennis Courts.
Balestrieri and Orobitg have been dominant this spring at No. 3
doubles and again Thursday, the duo improved to 9-0 on the year
with an 8-2 win over Fairfield's Mark and Erik
Kremheller.
The Stags would take the doubles point to lead 1-0 heading into
singles play where Paredes and Gardiner came away victorious.
Paredes, a sophomore, used a strong mix of shots against
Fairfield's Joe Michalisn and cruised in straight sets 6-4,
6-1.
Gardiner, one of three seniors on the team, fought off Rob
Ferrante 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 singles play to help pull the Bulldogs
even in the match 2-2.
But Fairfield's No. 1 Dan Sauter bounced back from losing
to Bryant's Balestrieri in the first set at No. 1, 7-6 to win
6-1, 6-1 and the Stags rolled from there as Erik Kremheller earned
a 6-0, 6-1 win over Bryant's Tom Nowak at No. 5, and Ryan
Berthod came back strong after falling in the first set to
Bryant's Nicholai Hill 6-3, to win 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4.
Bryant will visit Brandeis before hosting Holy Cross April 10
for Senior Day.
