BRYANT MEN'S TENNIS CLAIMS PAIR OF CONFERENCE WINS OVER
WEEKEND
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – On its road trip to New York City this
weekend, the Bryant University men's tennis team improved to 2-0 on
the season with a couple of wins over Northeast Conference
opponents, Wagner and St. Francis (NY). The Bulldogs downed the
Seahawks, 7-0 on Saturday to open dual meet action before topping
the Terriers, 6-1 on Sunday.
Junior Juan-Martin
Paredes (Quito, Ecuador) paced the Bulldogs by going
4-0 against the two New York squads while freshman Dana Parziale
(Pinehurst, N.C.), who was named NEC Rookie of the Week
after a strong showing at the UConn Invitational last weekend, went
3-0 0 on the trip.
On Saturday against Wagner, Paredes teamed up with senior
Cristian
Balestrieri (Mar Del Plata, Argentina) to capture
first doubles, 8-4, before knocking off Dave Garzon, 6-2, 6-1, at
No. 1 singles.
After earning a point for three victories at doubles, the
Bulldogs swept singles by winning each match in straight sets.
Balestrieri claimed second singles with a 6-1, 6-0, win over Taylor
Santoro while Parziale, Nolan Gelman (Dix
Hills, N.Y.), Hart Callahan
(Haverford, Pa.) and Vidith Huot
(Providence, R.I.) rounded out the singles lineup, each
winning 6-0, 6-0, respectively.
The Bulldogs continued to dominate on Sunday against St Francis
(NY), rolling through the doubles competition with a trio of 8-1
victories to pick up the point.
Paredes rounded out his perfect weekend with a 6-1, 6-2 victory
over Tita Mba at No. 1 singles while Parziale knocked off Edward
Alontaga, 6-0, 6-0 at the third slot. Gelman, Nicholai Hill
(Ottawa, Ontario) and Connor Crowley
(London, Ontario) each picked up wins at the fourth, fifth
and sixth spots, respectively.
The Black and Gold return to the court Oct. 8-10 when they take
part in the Stony Brook Tournament.
