BULLDOGS GET BIG WIN, TOP
TEMPLE 2-1 SUNDAY AFTERNOON
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Sophomore Elise Driscoll
(Harwich, Mass.) scored early and assisted on a
Courtney Landi (Kingston, N.Y.) game-winning tally
minutes later, leading the Bryant University field hockey team to a
2-1 victory over Temple Sunday afternoon in Philadelphia.
Driscoll's second goal of the season came in unassisted
fashion at the 7:30 mark and got the scoring started for the
Bulldogs (2-9), who earned a weekend split with the 2-1 win over
the Owls (4-8) on the road.
Just 3:17 after the score, Driscoll would play a part in
creating another tally, connecting with teammate Landi in the
offensive end. Landi would then double Bryant's advantage,
scoring her team-leading fifth tally of the year to give the
Bulldogs a 2-0 edge in the 11th minute.
Temple's Molly Doyle cut the home side's deficit in
half at the 14:12 mark with a goal off a save and consequent
rebound, but after three combined goals in the first 15 minutes of
the outing, both teams would go cold. Neither side registered
another score in the game's 55 remaining minutes, leaving
Doyle's tally as the final of the day to give the Bulldogs
the 2-1 victory.
Junior goalie Jennifer Gullotti (Waltham,
Mass.) made 10 stops while sophomore defender
Rachel Blitz (Riverwoods, Ill.) recorded a
defensive save for the second time this year to keep Temple out of
the net despite being outshot by the hosts, 21-7, on the afternoon.
Sarah Dalrymple made three saves for the Owls to take the loss.
After spending the first 11 contests of the season traveling the
highways, the Bulldogs return home to the Bryant Turf Complex to
host their 2010 home opener on Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. The
Black and Gold will welcome Holy Cross to Smithfield, R.I. for the
first contest in a four-game homestand that also features bouts
against Northeast Conference opponents Siena, Saint Francis (PA)
and Robert Morris.
