SMITHFIELD, RI - Junior Allison Faiola (Billerica,
MA) and senior Lauren Albert (South Windsor,
CT) each scored three goals while junior goalie
Jessica Bolton (Belgrade Lakes, ME) set a new
school record with 20 saves as the Bryant University women's
lacrosse team picked up a 12-8 win over visiting Central
Connecticut on a cold and rainy evening Wednesday at the Turf Field
Complex.
Bryant (3-6) never trailed in the game as Albert and freshman
Lauren Sheridan (Bethpage, NY) gave the Bulldogs a quick 2-0 lead
just four minutes into the game. Central Connecticut
managed to even the score on goals from Kacey Bisinere (Falmouth,
MA) and Ashley Mara (West Hartford, CT) midway through the first
half, but Albert would find the back of the net less than a minute
later to break the tie and the Bulldogs would never look back.
Albert's tally started a four-goal outburst by the Bulldogs who
took a 7-4 lead into the locker room at the half. Delia
Glover (Marston Mills, MA) would open the second half with a free
position goal just over a minute into the final frame, but the
story of the night was Bolton who had a career game between the
pipes for the Bulldogs.
Central Connecticut (0-10) out-shot the Bulldogs 34 to 27 in the
game and got a pair of goals from Ashley Perkoski (Newington, CT)
and Alexa Smead (Averill, NY), but Bolton came up big when the
Bulldogs needed her, netting a career-best and school record saves
on the night. The previous record was 17 held by Samantha Libby in
2003.
Bryant will begin a six-game road trip starting Friday with a
game at Quinnipiac (4 p.m.).
