TUESDAY
box score
SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Kristin Darrell (West
Islip, NY) and Mary Maloney (Great River,
NY) each score four goals as sixth-ranked Stonehill
College stayed alone in first place in the Northeast-10 Conference
with an 18-5 women's lacrosse win over Bryant University Tuesday
evening at the Bryant Turf Complex. The Skyhawks improve to
8-1 on the season (6-0 NE-10) while Bryant drops to 7-4 and 5-2 in
league.
Bryant got on the board first as Allison Faiola
(Billerica, MA) took a pass from teammate
Lauren Albert (South Windsor, CT)
and one-timed a shot past Stonehill goalie Amanda McGeachey
(Saco, Maine). But from that point on it was
all Stonehill as Liza Gross (Loundonville, NY) (3
goals) answered right back, taking the draw control and rushing
down field to knot the game up at 1-1 just 17 seconds later.
A little more than a minute later Christa LaRocco (West
Islip, NY) added a goal to make it 2-1 before Darrell
would net the first of her four goals on the night two minutes
later to quickly make it 3-1.
The Skyhawks led 7-1 before Caitlin Hansen (Spring Lake,
NJ) and Faiola scored late in the first half to trim the
lead to 7-3 at the break.
In the second half, Stonehill scored four straight goals
including two by Michelle Kelly (Mendham, NJ) to
make it 11-3 and the Skyhawks would cruise from there.
Faiola led the Bulldogs with two goals on the night while
Jessica Bolton (Belgrade Lakes, ME) made 12 saves
in goal. Bryant will return to action this Saturday with a
conference game at Southern Connecticut (1 pm).
