BRYANT MEN'S LACROSSE DEFEATS PACE 13-7
Bulldogs Host Top-Ranked Le Moyne
Saturday
SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Senior co-captain Bryan Molk
(Peabody, Mass.) and sophomore Jim Long (Durham,
NH) scored three goals each to lead the Bryant University
men's lacrosse team to a 13-7 win over visiting Pace
University.
Bryant (2-2, 1-0 Northeast-10), ranked No. 9 entering the week,
will bring a two-game win streak into this Saturday's showdown with
top-ranked and defending national champion Le Moyne at the Bryant
Turf Field (1 p.m.).
On Tuesday against Pace (3-2, 0-2 NE-10), the Bulldogs raced out
to a quick 4-0 lead early as four different players found the back
of the net in the first eight minutes of the game. The
Setters would finally get on the board with four minutes left as
Dan Abberton beat goalie Michael Kennedy (Port Jefferson
Station, NY) with a goal on the Setters first shot of the
game with 4:17 left in the quarter.
But Kevin Hoagland (Glastonbury, Conn.)
followed with his second goal of the quarter to make it 5-1 with 32
seconds left in the first.
The Bulldogs would take a 6-3 lead into the locker room at the
half, but Pace would trim the Bryant lead down to 6-4 with a quick
goal 51 seconds into the second half. But two goals by Long
sandwiched around a goal by Stoothoff pushed the Bryant lead to 9-5
and the Bulldogs would roll from there.
Stoothoff's goal was set up nicely by teammate Matt
McKeefrey (Melville, NY) who picked up a loose ball in
front of the Setter net and found a waiting Stoothoff alone for a
one-timer.
Bryant out-shot the visitors 41 to 14 in the game and won 17 of
23 face-offs.
