Women's Lacrosse Holds On For 17-15 Win at Bentley Thursday

BRYANT WOMEN'S LACROSSE DEFEATS BENTLEY, 17-15 THURSDAY
April 6, 2006

WALTHAM, Mass. - Junior midfielder Lauren Carlisle (San Diego, Calif.) scored five goals and tallied an assist as Bryant University held off a late Bentley charge for a 17-15 win in Northeast-10 women's lacrosse action Thursday afternoon. With the win Bryant improved to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the NE-10, while Bentley dropped its third straight to fall to 3-5 and 2-4.

The Bulldogs scored back-to-back goals from Lindsey Cann (Danvers, Mass.) and Carlisle to take a 15-9 lead with 6:27 to play. Bentley would rally by scoring six of the final eight goals, but would ultimately fall short in its comeback bid. Freshman Alyssa Ritchie (North Andover, Mass./North Andover), who scored a game-high six goals, began the run and a goal by Katie Van Horne (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) just 11 seconds later made the score 15-11 with 5:15 to play. Sophomore Liz Goddard (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxboro) scored 1:20 later to get the Falcons within a pair of goals, but Shaun Leddy (Sea Girt, N.J.) and Caitlin Hansen (Spring Lake, N.J.) would net goals for Bryant in the next two minutes of play to push the lead back to five with 2:17 to play.

Bentley did not quit as three straight goals by Ritchie, Goddard and Kellyn Riccitelli (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) cut the deficit to two, but time would run out before the Falcons could make the game any tighter. Senior Samantha Libby (Penacook, N.H.) played very well in goal for Bryant making 15 saves on the afternoon, while senior Lisa Cavallo (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) stopped three shots for Bentley. The Falcons held a 36-25 edge in shots and a 21-19 advantage in ground balls, but the Bulldogs controlled the majority of the restarts taking 21 of the game's 33 draw controls.

The first half was a low scoring affair that featured just ten goals. Bryant would take a four goal lead in the latter stages of the opening half, but Bentley was able to cut the score to 6-4 at the break as Ritchie scored the final goals before intermission. Ritchie scored 31 seconds into the second half to pull Bentley within a goal, but the Bulldogs, who led the entire way after taking a 3-2 lead, would score four consecutive goals to take a 10-5 lead with 22:18 to play.

Bryant returns to action next Tuesday at AIC, while Bentley travels to Southern Connecticut on Saturday at 1:00.
