BRYANT MEN'S TENNIS DEFEATS BENTLEY 5-4

WALTHAM, Mass. – Craig Drushella (Harwich, Mass.) pulled out a three-set victory to clinch the deciding point as Bryant University edged Bentley College 5-4 in Northeast-10 men's tennis action Thursday afternoon. With the win, the Bulldogs remain perfect in NE-10 play and improve to 11-3 overall, while the Falcons drop to 5-9 and 5-2 (NE-10). 

      The Bulldogs jumped out to a 2-1 lead as they won at both number two and number three doubles. Drushella combined with teammate Mike Pickowicz (Bedford, N.H.) for a 8-3 win at number two, while Ben Caisse (Griswold, Conn.) and Zach Goodman (Amherst, Mass.) earned an 8-2 win at number three. Bentley got the win at top flight doubles as Greg Maloomian and Greg Avola won 8-2.

        Erik Zipp (Darien, Wisc.) secured an important point for the Bulldogs top flight singles with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Maloomian. Bentley would tie the match at three as both Avola - 6-0, 6-2 - and Colin Whooten  – 6-1, 6-2 – netted straight set singles wins at number two and number three singles. Bryant regained the lead at 4-3 as T.J. Euley (Bristol, Conn.) won 6-1, 6-3 at number five singles.

        Bentley needing wins in the final two matches got the first point they needed as Pat Schorno outlasted Sean Authier (North Smithfield, R.I.) 6-4, 0-6, 6-3 at number six singles to even the match at four. Drushella and Mike McCrillis also went to three sets at number four singles, but Drushella rebounded after dropping the first set to pull out the match 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.
       Bryant looks to remain perfect in the NE-10 as they host Stonehill at 1 p.m.
