Christina Maciel enters her fourth season as the assistant women's soccer coach at Bryant. In the past three seasons, Maciel has helped transition the Bulldogs from the Division II to the Division I level.
In 2009, the Bulldogs' first full season with a Northeast Conference schedule, she guided the squad to four wins overall and two in the NEC. However, the Bulldogs were in most of their games as they lost nine games by one goal including three in overtime and tied two. Bryant’s four wins came against Hartford, Saint Peter’s, Sacred Heart and Robert Morris.
Before returning to her alma mater, Maciel spent two years as
the head women's soccer coach at Dean College. Previously the
assistant coach, Maciel took over the head position in December of
2004. Under her tutelage, the program saw 12 players receive
all-region honors and two players were named Dean College Female
Athlete of the Year.
Maciel has established a name for herself in both the club and
Olympic Development Programs in Rhode Island. This fall, she
will enter her eighth season with the Rhode Island ODP
program, where, for the past seven years she has worked with
several age groups and trained goalkeepers. Throughout the
past 9 years, Maciel has taken an active role in the Rhode Island
club soccer scene, holding coaching positions with the Rhode
Island Rays and Bayside F.C. Maciel currently serves as the
Director of Coaching for Tidal Wave S.C.
At Bryant, Maciel was the recipient of the Northeast-10 Conference
Rookie of the Week and NE-10 Player of the Week awards in her
freshman and junior years. In her tenure as a player at
Bryant, her team appeared in two conference tournaments and
was the first squad in program history to qualify for the NCAA
Tournament, accomplished in 2001. Maciel graduated from Bryant
in 2004 with a degree in marketing.
Originally from Townsend, Mass., Maciel currently resides in East Providence, R.I. with her husband, Michael, and daughter, Mary-Kate.
