WOMEN'S SOCCER NIPPED BY LATE GOAL AT SAINT FRANCIS (PA), LOSE 2-1

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - In a physical matchup where five yellow and two red cards were issued, the Bryant University women's soccer team was defeated, 2-1, on a Saint Francis (Pa.) goal scored in the 86th minute.

The Red Flash (8-6-2, 5-3 NEC) took the early lead on a goal scored by Rachel Seibert in the 27th minute. Brittni Grenninger crossed the ball to Seibert who was able to beat freshman keeper Kelsi Jacob (Mahwah, N.J.). Jacob made four saves in the contest.

Just before the end of the first half the Bulldogs got on the board on a goal scored by Mary Green (Merrick, N.Y.), her first of the 2009 campaign. Green shot the ball and was able to deflect it off another body and into the goal for the score.

After a hard-fought 40 minutes of second half action, the Red Flash picked up the game-winner on a Brittany Valentine goal in the 86th minute. Seibert was able to flick the ball to Valentine who beat the Bulldogs' senior keeper Katie Mitchell (Deer Park, N.Y.) for the score.

The Bulldogs outshot the Red Flash by a margin of 16-11. Red Flash keeper Jessica Boyer stopped 11 Bryant shots.

The squad continues its trip in Pennsylvania as they travel to Moon Township, Pa. to take on Robert Morris on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 1 p.m.
